March 2026<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

Welcome back Ladies to our 2026 Season.<\/p>\n

Our Season Opening on February 10th was well supported with 61 competing. \u00a0Additionally, this was the first comp day for the newly opened and much anticipated 7th hole. \u00a0Margaret Gray our inaugural 18 Hole Women\u2019s Vets 2025 Champion did us all proud, having the first member drive at the official opening the previous day! Congratulations Marg! Some of our Tuesday competitors found the new 7th<\/sup> challenging but there were also wonderful results on our first day with a birdie to Sheena Gunn!<\/p>\n

Our delicious Season Opening morning tea of scones and jam was generously sponsored by Fran Scutts (KFC) and made by our very own Robyn Cooper. Thank you so much to these ladies.<\/p>\n

We welcomed a new Vets member, Carmel Johnson. \u00a0Please make Carmel feel welcome.<\/p>\n

We also welcome Matt and Courtney Docking as our new golf professionals, and their staff, Sam, Bec & Steve to the Pro Shop. \u00a0Matt joined us at our Season Opening presentation, giving us a heads up on what the future holds for Women Vets here at Port.<\/p>\n

Noted also, The Pro Shop is beginning to look sensational with a new array of stock!\u00a0 This includes logoed Women\u2019s Vet shirts, available for ordering at $50 with your name embroidered, should you wish.<\/p>\n

PMWV Committee<\/p>\n

The committee remains the same as last year as we are in the final year of a 2-year tenure, expiring in March 2027. \u00a0Any members who may feel that they might want to come on board please advise us of your interest and perhaps sit in on committee meetings and see what\u2019s involved. \u00a0Succession planning begins now. Nothing official or permanent just a look see if you like it.<\/p>\n

Summer Comp Results<\/p>\n

The 9-hole Summer Comp run by the PMWV was well received: Winner: Angela Ayres, Runner Up: Deb Strachan, & Third: Louella Guild. Congratulations ladies!<\/p>\n

Just a reminder that PMWV annual $10 membership is now due and payable to Denise. \u00a0<\/p>\n

    Membership is per calendar year, the fee is $10.00 annually, all of which is used for the members by the Women Vets Committee – subsidised luncheons, special events, etc.<\/p>\n

          Monthly luncheon<\/p>\n

          Commenced again for 2026, is the monthly Women Vets luncheon. Occurring on the last Tuesday of the month it follows our presentation. There is a standing booking for 10-15, so no need to book. \u00a0It\u2019s an opportunity to introduce new players to the club in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. \u00a0Please feel free to invite your playing partners along as well.<\/p>\n

          Tips of the month<\/p>\n

          The current tip relates to the local rule of compulsory<\/strong> call up on ALL par 3\u2019s. The lowest handicapper in the group is responsible for calling up the waiting group. Breaching of this local rule can be a 2 stoke penalty. After being called up move to the blue line where still visible, or to the cart signs in front of green, waiting quietly until the players have putted out.<\/p>\n

          NB: \u00a0Players who are not able to hit onto the green may hit before being called up.<\/p>\n

          NBB: There are red lines before the 1 and 10 tees. Please stay quietly behind these lines until the group in front have hit and moved off.<\/p>\n

          Women Veterans Update<\/h2>\n

          Finally good weather prevails and we are able to update you on some news other than cancellations!<\/p>\n

          Throughout the periods of inclement weather, it was easier and more reliable to inform you all of changes and cancellations through the Member Notifications icon on the APP.<\/p>\n

          18 Hole Championship<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Our inaugural 18 hole Women Veterans Championship finally took place in September having been postponed from May. \u00a0The two days were played under sunny skies and generously sponsored by Hastings Physio and Health.<\/p>\n

          A deserved winner with 41 Stableford points was Margaret Gray. \u00a0Margaret is a long-time member of PMGC and played consistent golf over the two days to be our inaugural winner. \u00a0Runner up was Susie Barry with 38 points and third place went to Kay Sallaway on 37. \u00a0Nick Ratcliffe, from Hastings Physio and Heath who generously sponsored the day, presented the prize winners on the day. \u00a0Congratulations to all!<\/p>\n

          Joan Blackburne Memorial
          <\/strong>Finally taking place in October, the day is dedicated to Joan, our former PMWV President & life member, with 10 years\u2019 service. \u00a0John, her husband sponsored the fun day with 3 clubs and a putter comp. \u00a0This was followed by Joan\u2019s tradition of celebrating with scones, jam and cream. \u00a0Thank you to Fran Scutts for generously donating our morning tea.<\/p>\n

          Deb Strachan a new Vets member, took out the honour of winning the trophy. \u00a0Anne Coutts gave an enlightening outline of Joan\u2019s golfing history which was appreciated by all, especially new members.<\/p>\n

          The acknowledgment award, initiated by John last year, was awarded to a very surprised but happy Anne Broomby.<\/p>\n

          SwingFit Transition Program
          <\/strong>The 3 month program is to help transition new SwingFit players, not of veteran age, to be mentored in the 9 hole competition prior to commencing 18 hole comps. Whilst in the program, these members are not eligible to win major events.<\/p>\n

          During this time the ladies will receive tips on course management, pace of play, etiquette and meet other players all with the same interest in the wonderful golfing journey. Currently we have Lauren Campbell in the program, whom many of you would know from the club\u2019s front office.<\/p>\n

          Booking Sheet Changes
          <\/strong>A 9 hole timesheet, including a wait list, has been introduced to minimise booking errors. Thus, there are now dedicated 18 hole and 9 hole timesheets. Thanks must go to Yani Muffet for her expertise in helping John Tracey set this up for us. A very successful initiative.<\/p>\n

          Raffle
          <\/strong>Our current raffle leading up to our Christmas luncheon is a generously donated ladies golf bag and a dozen golf balls. Tickets are available for $5 each or 3 for $10, with the proceeds going to subsidising our Christmas Luncheon. Thank you to our generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

          Tips of the month
          <\/strong>Our tips of the month continue and are now in demand from other clubs. A summary of our tips is available on the App on the last page under Golf Etiquette.<\/p>\n

          VWGA News
          <\/strong>Congratulations go to Joan Jarv and Margaret Gray who received their special \u201c80\u201d badge during the year.<\/p>\n

          Christmas Luncheon
          <\/strong>The final event for 2025, our Christmas Celebration Luncheon, will be held on Tuesday 9th<\/sup> December following a two person Ambrose event. The competition for the day is sponsored by Naomi Hunter from HEM who will be attending for presentation.<\/p>\n

          Our annual awards will take place at the luncheon, along with a report in lieu of an AGM and as usual, luck door prizes and lots of fun.<\/p>\n

          Summer Comp
          <\/strong>The WV 9 and 18 hole Summer Comps will commence on 16th<\/sup> December, running till 3rd<\/sup> February 2026, except for days noted in the fixtures book as social play only. Please note, there will be no NTP, gobblers & birdies or presentations during the Summer Comp, enabling the comps to be run remotely. The weekly winning prizes & ball comp will continue as usual.<\/p>\n

          Overall Summer Comp prizes will be announced on the 10th<\/sup> February, the first day of our 2026 competition calendar.<\/p>\n

          March 2025 Update<\/h2>\n

          Welcome back ladies to the 2025 Golf Season.<\/p>\n

          \u00a0Our Season Opening on February 11th was well supported by 63, 9hole & 4, 18hole women.<\/p>\n

          Our traditional morning tea of scones and jam was generously donated by Fran Scutts (KFC) and was well received by all. Thank you, Fran.<\/p>\n

          Sub Committee Elections<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

          We have been waiting since November for the board to make final decisions regarding the elections of the Sub Committees. This has now happened, and the elections are now complete.<\/p>\n

          The elections will take place biannually in March. Our subcommittee will now comprise of 6 members, an increase of 1 member from last year. The tenure for each committee position is to be 2 years.<\/p>\n

          Our Chairperson and Captain are elected positions along with three committee members, one of whom is to be secretary. The sixth member is to be a Board nominated Director.<\/p>\n

          PMWV Committee <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

          Following the elections\u2026let me reintroduce them to you<\/p>\n

          Fran Scutts is our Representative Director from the Board.<\/p>\n

          Myself, Vicki Newton continues as your chairperson.<\/p>\n

          Julie Robbins has been elected as Captain, replacing Suzanne Savage who has stepped down after 5 years in the position.<\/p>\n

          Jenny Holloway is continuing as our secretary. She\u2019s responsible for keeping us all on our toes with the organising of meetings, sponsorship & distributing the minutes, a copy of which can be found in the folder in the women\u2019s locker room.<\/p>\n

          Denise Latif continues our Treasurer and keeps tabs on where your membership, raffle & sponsorship monies go. Additionally, she financially sorts our 2 functions a year including your subsidised luncheon.<\/p>\n

          Anne-Marie Ferry is our welfare officer. Previously AM was assisting the committee by looking after the welfare area. She is now a full voting member of the committee. Please let AM know of anyone having surgery or is unwell so that we may touch base with them. Please note, we are very careful in protecting the privacy of our members and only after their permission is given, do we update our other members.<\/p>\n

          PLEASE NOTE, we welcome any Women\u2019s Vet member who would like to come and see how the committee or individual roles within our committee work. Succession planning begins now & we are interested in sharing our skills.<\/p>\n

          As mentioned earlier, Suzanne has been our Vets Captain for the past 5 years and has also been heavily involved with the Women\u2019s subcommittee as well. A big thanks needs to go to Suzanne for her time, dedication and leadership in her role which she has handled in a professional and competent manner.<\/p>\n

          Perhaps Suzanne\u2019s greatest legacy in handing over of the baton to our new Captain, Julie Robbins, has been her mentoring for the past 2 years.<\/p>\n

          We wish Suzanne all the best for the future and continued stress-free enjoyment in her golfing journey. Thank you, Suzanne, for a sterling job.<\/p>\n

                  November 2024 Update<\/p>\n

                  Welcome to our Lady Vets final update for the year.<\/p>\n

                  October commenced with the Joan Blackburne Memorial Day, sponsored by John Blackburne. \u00a0Following the fun game of three clubs and a putter, the traditional \u2018Joan\u2019s Morning Tea\u2019 of scones with jam and cream was enjoyed prior to our presentation.<\/p>\n
