Sub Committee Elections

We have been waiting since November for the board to make final decisions regarding the elections of the Sub Committees. This has now happened, and the elections are now complete.

The elections will take place biannually in March. Our subcommittee will now comprise of 6 members, an increase of 1 member from last year. The tenure for each committee position is to be 2 years.

Our Chairperson and Captain are elected positions along with three committee members, one of whom is to be secretary. The sixth member is to be a Board nominated Director.

PMWV Committee

Following the elections…let me reintroduce them to you

Fran Scutts is our Representative Director from the Board.

Myself, Vicki Newton continues as your chairperson.

Julie Robbins has been elected as Captain, replacing Suzanne Savage who has stepped down after 5 years in the position.

Jenny Holloway is continuing as our secretary. She’s responsible for keeping us all on our toes with the organising of meetings, sponsorship & distributing the minutes, a copy of which can be found in the folder in the women’s locker room.

Denise Latif continues our Treasurer and keeps tabs on where your membership, raffle & sponsorship monies go. Additionally, she financially sorts our 2 functions a year including your subsidised luncheon.

Anne-Marie Ferry is our welfare officer. Previously AM was assisting the committee by looking after the welfare area. She is now a full voting member of the committee. Please let AM know of anyone having surgery or is unwell so that we may touch base with them. Please note, we are very careful in protecting the privacy of our members and only after their permission is given, do we update our other members.

PLEASE NOTE, we welcome any Women’s Vet member who would like to come and see how the committee or individual roles within our committee work. Succession planning begins now & we are interested in sharing our skills.

Thank You

As mentioned earlier, Suzanne has been our Vets Captain for the past 5 years and has also been heavily involved with the Women’s subcommittee as well. A big thanks needs to go to Suzanne for her time, dedication and leadership in her role which she has handled in a professional and competent manner.

Perhaps Suzanne’s greatest legacy in handing over of the baton to our new Captain, Julie Robbins, has been her mentoring for the past 2 years.

We wish Suzanne all the best for the future and continued stress-free enjoyment in her golfing journey. Thank you, Suzanne, for a sterling job.

November 2024 Update

Welcome to our Lady Vets final update for the year.

October commenced with the Joan Blackburne Memorial Day, sponsored by John Blackburne.  Following the fun game of three clubs and a putter, the traditional ‘Joan’s Morning Tea’ of scones with jam and cream was enjoyed prior to our presentation.

The well-deserved winner of the trophy was Anne Coutts with Jennifer Lee and Helen Prowse as runners up.  This year John sponsored an Acknowledgment Award. The criteria:

  • Someone not regularly in the winner’s circle but acknowledged for her participation, positive attitude and dedication to Women Vets Golf and supporting and mentoring new members in a positive manner.

The worthy recipient of the award was Barbara Stratton.  Congratulations Barb!

Course Changes

The renumbering of the front 9 also occurred on the 1st October.  These changes have made for an easier flow and most people are pleased with the updated layout.

Tip of the Month: Local Rule 2… Ground under repair (GUR) includes free relief:

  • Areas encircled by white paint or marked by white stakes. The white paint may be marked as unbroken line, dots or broken lines. Optional to take relief unless there is a compulsory sign
  • Areas of bare ground in the general area cut to fairway height or less other than divots
  • Clearly defined wheel ruts made by course maintenance machinery
  • Ensure you confer with your marker, before taking relief.
  • To take full relief, find the nearest point to where your ball lies, no nearer the hole & where you no longer have interference from the GUR. Then drop within one club-length of that point. NB: Nearest point of relief, Not the Nicest!

Committee Elections

Following the PMGC AGM on the 20th of November, all subcommittees will be up for re-election.

Our Captain of the past 4 years Suzanne Savage is stepping down for a well-deserved break. Thank you Suzanne, for all your dedication and support for the PMWV and in your other golfing roles.

Consequently, the position of WV Captain is now vacant.  Our Assistant Captain is happy to step up, and the remainder of the WV Committee (Chairperson and two committee members) are happy to re stand.

However, should anyone be interested, they may nominate for the positions.

Forms can be obtained from reception.

Christmas Luncheon

Our Christmas luncheon will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of December in the Seabreeze room from 12 noon, commencing with our usual golf presentation.  Cost is $30 per head and includes a two-course meal of main and deserts with wine and soft drinks.  Yearly awards will be given out along with lucky door prizes and raffles.  The booking sheet is in the Locker Room and money is payable to Denise by 26th November please.

Summer Break

Our Summer 9 & 18 hole WV Comp will be run by the PMWV Committee.  The Comp will run from 10th December to 28th January, excluding public holidays.  As the results will be collated remotely, there will be no nearest the pins.  Please note however, that NTP monies will be added to the ball comp.

Women Vets Monthly Luncheon

The last Tuesday of the month has been set aside for our members wishing to get together for lunch after golf and has been well supported and appreciated by our ladies.

It’s an opportunity to meet new players and gather in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.  Bookings aren’t necessary and remember to invite your playing partners along as well.

Welcome

A special welcome to new members, we hope you have fun playing with us and please make yourselves known to the committee.  Also welcome back to members returning from illness, surgery or injury.  Lovely to have you back with us.

Welfare

Please remember to advise Anne-Marie or any member of the committee of any of our ladies or their families that may be ill or having a difficult time who may need our help or a visit.  Our thoughts are with our ladies who are unwell or recovering from surgery or injuries for a speedy recovery and return to golf.

 Christmas Wishes

As this is our last newsletter for the year, the committee wishes you all a safe and happy festive season.  We thank you for your support over the past year and look forward to the start of our 2025 session on Tuesday 4th February. Merry Christmas everyone

Thank you
