Port Macquarie Golf Club was the final site in the home vs away Encourage Shield series between Port Macquarie Golf Club and Forster Tuncurry Golf Club…

The Port Macquarie Team in their new blue team shirts was fielded by Nick Van Zeeland, Mali Rutter, Will Coombes, Joseph Gornall. Arthur Hough, and lead by Captain Harper Rowlatt…

Forster Tuncurry looked sharp in the Yellow and Black, with the team of Chase Cornall, Lexi Cornall, Logan Dowse, Mac Randall, Lucas White, and Anna Wyatt…

Off the Purple Tee Box, the matches were mostly even on handicap, so it was going to be, who adapts the best to the conditions of the day…

The lead match of Harper Rowlatt vs Lucas White went off with Harper getting a 6-shot advantage over Lucas. Harper took advantage of over the front 9 leading 4 up. A little fight back saw Lucas get back a couple of holes, but Harper was to strong winning 3&2…

Playing in the same group, Arthur Hough played Mac Randall in the next match. From the first tee shot Arthur was just on his game. Hitting it long and straight all-day Mac tried his best, and played well, but just got out done by Arthur 6&5…

Next grouping was Joseph Gornall vs Anna Wyatt. This match was one sided through 9 holes, with Joseph being 3 up at the turn. Then Anna turned on the jets, getting all of that back and also taking the lead going in to the last hole. Joseph stayed composed, hit a few good shots in to 18 to halve the match…

Alongside Joseph and Anna, Will Coombes played Logan Dowse. Hitting it a long way, Will had to give Logan 4 shots. Hitting it straight most of the day, Will didn’t really put himself under any pressure making Logan do all the hard work. Will got off to a quick lead, and even though Logan got a couple of holes back, it was a 2&1 win for Will Coombes…

In the final match it was Nick Van Zealand vs Chase Cornall, alongside Mali Rutter vs Lexi Cornall. Van Zealand and Cornall was a great match, going back and forward on score, trading huge tee shots with one another, and making clutch 15 foot putts to push each other to the absolute limit of their game. It all came down to a huge putt on 17 from Van Zealnd to remain 1 down going up the last. Both bomb tee shots down 18, with Nick hitting it on the 18th green for 2, to see him 2 putt and get the halve for his match.

Finally, the young girls played some more great golf. Mali dominated through the first 9 holes getting to 3 up on Lexi. Lexi got them all back and both girls headed up 18 tied in the match. Shot for shot all the way to the green, unfortunately Lexi found herself having to stand in the bunker while her ball was stuck on the lip costing her a couple of extra shots and giving Mali the match 1 up…

It was a great series, and hopefully both clubs can continue to build off the success of the event…

Albatross on a par five rated as a 6 million to 1 chance for amateur golfers.

According to Google the chance of posting an albatross as an amateur golfer is rated at six million to one.

Former Port Macquarie Junior member Jack Phillips just recently achieved that one. Playing in a Weatherford College competition event in U.S.A Jack came to the 11th par 5 hole and with downwind assistance bombed a drive and then watched his 9 iron hit the green and one bounce into the hole for an albatross. On scholarship at Weatherford in Oklahoma in his first year there he is playing number one for the college in inter college matches.

Good luck to Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy who it is believed are still trying for their first albatross according to Google.

Those members like John McGrath and Barry McLaren who have played with Jack here in Port would not now recognise him from the then skinny blonde kid who is now six foot six and a ball of muscle from constant gym work.
