Welfare
We welcome back our Women Members who have recovered from illness or surgery.
THANK YOUS
At this point in time, I would like to say a big thank Anne-Marie Ferry for being the Welfare Officer for both the Women’s Vets and the Women Members for the last 2 years. It is a mammoth task to acknowledge big birthdays, to express our condolences during times of loss and to be in contact with our Women Members during ill health. Anne-Marie will continue on in this role for the Women’s Vets.
A big thank you must also go to Anne Coutts who has been the NSWVWGA Delegate for the last 2 years. Again, a mammoth task to collect and chase renewals and forward to the VWGA, liaise with the NSWVWGA with regards to 80th and 90th Birthdays, apply for Hole-in-One pins, collate and send the results for the Mabel Mackenzie Brooch and the Country Championships for both Wednesday and Saturday players.
If there is anyone who would like to volunteer to take over from Anne it would be very much appreciated. If we cannot find a replacement, we may well have to just let it slide. I will be putting up the list of current NSWVWGA members on the Notice Board in the Women’s Locker Room in the next week and for any current member who wishes to renew, it will be your responsibility to provide your $7 renewal fee in an envelope and either handed to a Sub-Committee Member or left at reception for the attention of the Women’s Sub-Committee no later than our End of Year Meeting on Wednesday 3 December, 2025.
Wishing all of our PMWG who are experiencing ill health a speedy recovery and return to golf.
WOMENS FOURSOMES
Our foursomes are over for another year! 40 pairs walked/carted our lovely fairways (and at times the trees, rough, sand and water!) for the complete 27 holes with 1 team completing 18 holes.
Annemaree Herring and Robyn Cooper (what a great early birthday present!) are our well-deserved champions for 2025.
Division 2 winners, by a convincing 11 shots, were Lilian Smith and Kathy Lawrence.
Feedback on the day was very positive about our new format.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Our final round will be held this Sunday with all 4 divisions hotly contested in both Gross and Nett. Leaders in A, B C and D grades currently are Annemaree Herring (with a convincing 10 shot lead!), Helen Smith, (a close contest in B grade), Deb Wallace (7 shots in the lead!) and Kay Swift ( D grade has opened up with the top 2 unable to play the final round)! Watch this space for our results.
NSW Womens Club Challenge
This event was not played due to course closures in Sydney. We are not sure if it will be rescheduled!
4BBB KNOCKOUT
We have cancelled this event for 2025 as there was no spot in our fixtures to play it.
Mid-Year Meeting request
We are running a MULTI GRADE Trams event day on Wednesday Dec 17. It will be a shotgun start in groups of 3, with names to be placed on the booking sheet in grades (A, B and C). You will be able to place your preferred group on the timesheet.
Remember, we are continuing to take sandwich orders before our game when we play a Shotgun start. This has relieved congestion at the bar and bistro after our game.
When should we stop playing a hole?
Our game of golf can be very challenging at times. Initially it was played as ‘STROKE PLAY’ but it was found that this could be very time consuming! Alternate formats, STABLEFORD and PAR, were introduced to both quicken play and reduce some of the frustration that can occur.
So, when playing these two formats it is expected that the ball will be ‘picked up’ when a score cannot be made on the hole. This lets all players on the course have a quicker round!
