May has been a month of unprecedented weather and closures.  Thank you to our wonderful Green Staff and Board for making the tough decisions and endeavoring to protect and keep our course playable.  This weather must abate soon!!

Our annual Open Day on Friday 11 April, 2025 was a great day with a full field and beautiful weather.  We had visitors from 16 Clubs and the Club House was abuzz for lunch and raffle draws.  Thankyous must go to:

  • Our Course Superintendent and green staff;
  • HEM Property (Naomi Hunter) for generously supporting the day.
  • Bev Stewart who stepped in for Justin Cave attending to set up and lunch orders.
  • Kitchen and Bar Staff.
  • Nicole for taking photographs out on the course and uploading for slide show.
  • The Volunteers who generously offer their time to be spotters, bunker rakers and helpers on the morning tea and raffle ticket sales.
  • Port Macquarie Golf Club, James Single and our Port Macquarie Women’s Golfers for generously donating to our raffle prizes. I am pleased to say that we raised $990.00 for our nominated Charity this year, The Soup Kitchen.

Timbertown Bowl
Our annual competition with our friends from Wauchope Golf Club is scheduled to kick-off with Port Macquarie hosting on Friday 20 June, 2025.  We have just noticed that this in fact clashes with Taree’s Open Day.  There will be some discussions as to whether Taree will go ahead and whether we reschedule the Timbertown Bowl.  We will keep you informed.

Fixtures
This year we have introduced an event to the calendar being a Memorial Day (remembering past members).  This event is scheduled for Wednesday 23 July, 2025 and is sponsored by The Dixie Chicks (Fran Scutts, Marg Bateman, Corrina Munro and Di Collocott).  We are gathering photographs of some of our former members who have passed away and/or who are no longer playing golf. I would like to ask any of our Women Members if you have any photographs of some our past members that you would like to share.  We plan run a slide show on the day.

Sadly, since our last Newsletter we have said goodbye to two of our long-term members of Port Macquarie Golf Club namely June Williams and Elaine Borger.  RIP June and Elaine.

Wishing all of our PMWG who are experiencing ill health a speedy recovery and return to golf.

Pennants 2025

BREAKING NEWS! 2025 Pennants have been abandoned as the Northern district have only been able to complete 3 out of 7 rounds!

Port Macquarie was to have had 2 of its teams playing each other on June 16th AT PORT MACQUARIE to decide the Southern Section winner to go forward to the CNC District FINAL at Emerald Downs the following Monday. NEXT YEAR!

Thankyou Naomi Hunter for the great sponsorship of our teams.  Thankyou to all of our woman who played a part in the 2025 Pennant season.

Date changes 2025 (Please may the rain stop!)

  • Please keep an eye on the Fixtures for changes to events over the next few weeks.
  • Our May MM has been cancelled! The daily event is now a Stableford.  We have moved the VWGA Mabel Mackenzie Brooch to the June medal round. (Here’s hoping that the course is dried out enough to play then – if not we will move the medal to later in June – keep an eye on the Fixtures.)
  • The 4BBB Nett Stroke Matchplay has been rescheduled to the following dates. Qualifying rounds are Wednesday 10/9 and Saturday 13/9.  Round 1 will be played on Sunday 21/9.  Round 2 is to be completed by Sunday 28/9.  Round 3 is to be completed by Sunday 5/10 (as this is the Port Plate weekend that quite a few of our members play in there is an exception in place for this group).  The Final is TBD.
  • The Wednesday qualifying round for the Singles Knockout has been moved back one week to June 25. All other dates stay unchanged.
  • CARTS and Matchplay events. It is not a condition of play that carts must be available for a Matchplay round to go ahead.  I hope that the weather gods are kind to us in August and October and the use of carts is not an issue!
  • Our Foursomes Championship has been rescheduled to October 22.

NTP changes

  • We have been trialling the All In NTP on both Wednesday and Friday.  Many of you will have noted that all but 1 (I believe) has been won by someone from A Grade.  After much discussion it has been decided to do another ‘trial”.  We are not increasing the number of NTPs at this stage as this would impact on the ball rundown given current field sizes.  NTPs going forward will be:
    • Wednesday – 14th No change. 16th All In B&C Grades ONLY 2nd shot
    • Friday – 4th No change. 7th A Grade ONLY 2nd shot
  • These changes will take effect from June 1.

District Open Days

  • Members need to enter themselves for All OPEN DAYS. We will not be doing any CLUB ENTRIES.  This is to ensure that members do not miss out on a place.  Some Open Days are very popular and fill up well before the publicised closing date.
  • Margaret will provide a copy of the entry form to any person who wishes to enter an Open Day (if needed).
  • The Coastal Women’s Golf Facebook page has most Open Day entries listed. Marg Bateman is also placing all entry forms we receive in the folder in the locker room.
  • PORT Macquarie’s Open Day in April was a big success (lucky for us it was JUST BEFORE this rain event!) with 142 women competing.

BREAKING NEWS FROM FORSTER – TUNCURRY

  • This morning our match Committee met at the Tuncurry course and surveyed the incredible amount of water on the course.  It was decided to postpone our Open Day which was scheduled for this coming Friday and we have chosen the 5thSeptember for our new date to give the course plenty of time to be in tip top condition. Anyone who has entered the tournament will be automatically re entered into the new date. If you find you are unable to play could you please email our Treasurer, loadsman@bigpond.com with your bank details and the full amount will re refunded into your account.

Our wonderful course staff!

THANKYOU to Steve and company.  In the trying conditions over the past weeks our Greens Staff have done (and continue to do) a great job in very trying circumstances

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL ON A DRIED-OUT GOLF COURSE SOON!!!
