From the Chairperson PMWG Sub-Committee
Greetings to all. July and August have been very busy months.
We held our annual Captains –v- Chairpersons Day which proved to be a lot of fun. The Captains team on this occasion was victorious. Look out next year Sheena we will be back with avengeance. Perhaps more pink lollies will do the trick.
Our Dixie Chicks Day in memory of Chris Dickson was played in great spirit and we all shared some lovely memories of our dear friend and past member.
We had a very successful Women’s Seaside Classic in 2024, with positive feedback from the 19 Visiting Clubs, with large contingents from Coffs Harbour and Belmont. Attached are the results from the event.
Zonta Art Show
Our local chapter of Zonta International held their Art Show in the Sea Breeze Room from 29 July to 4 August, 2024. The art on display was most impressive and it was great that the Art Show coincided with the Seaside Classic. Congratulations Marg Bateman and your team at Zonta for a fabulous event and congratulations on the sales. I hear it was a very successful event. Well done.
Welfare
It is with great pleasure that we welcome back some of our Women’s Members who have been struggling with injuries and health issues, namely, Judy Toogood, Gerry Lavender, Maus Grant and Gillian Pirie. Enjoy our beautiful golf course and the camaraderie that Port Macquarie Golf Club offers.
New Members
Welcome to several new Women’s Members:
Abbey O’Reilly, Samantha Crowe, Prue Bowman, Deb Strachan and Madeline Higgs. We wish you many happy days at Port Macquarie Golf Club.
Facebook Posts
It has been noted that a couple of errors have occurred in some recent results posts. I would like to congratulate Lyn Somers and Sheena Gunn on their fantastic work on these posts, which come out in a very timely manner and keep everyone informed. If you detect an error in a post, we invite you to contact the author of the post, either Lyn or Sheena, who will be only too happy to edit the post where required.
Timbertown Bowl
Our return visit to Wauchope for Timbertown Bowl has been rescheduled to Friday 15 November, 2024. The sign-up sheet will be located in the Women’s Locker Room. Port Macquarie holds a very slim lead after Round 1 so we need a strong contingent of Women Members to play in Wauchope to vie to bring back the trophy to Port Macquarie.

Travelling Golfers
Marie Horan had some success at the Newcastle Hunter District 36 hole Championship at Hawks Nest on 18-19 August.
Marie won the Rose Bowl Trophy for 36 hole nett in div. 3 (also won this last year at Horizons, and at Pacific Dunes the year before). Congratulations Marie great effort.
Recently Fran Scutts, Cathy Ditchfield and I joined a Go Golfing Trip to Japan and I would like to share that we caught up with one of our very dear past Members Yoko Tokumoto. Yoko booked a restaurant for us to share a meal in Sapporo and then we attended the Sapporo Beer Festival. Here are a couple of photos. It was delightful to catch up with Yoko and she has very fond memories and formed friendships from her time in Port Macquarie.

End of Year Meeting
As our new Committee structure is a Sub-Committee there will be no AGM. However, our Sub-Committee sees the need for an End of Year Meeting to get your feedback on the year, which will take place on Wednesday 4 December, 2024 following golf. We will issue a draft Agenda with items for discussion and we welcome our Women Members to advise of any items they would like to be considered at this meeting.
Moving forward we will also hold a Mid-Year Meeting at a date TBA but will be after a shotgun start.
Wishing all of our Members experiencing ill health and recovering from surgeries a speedy recovery and return to golf.
Wishing you continued good health and happy golfing.

CAPTAINS NEWSLETTER August
Firstly, I have been overwhelmed by the support from the women members of Port Macquarie Golf Club after my husbands passing. THANK YOU.
Seaside Classic
The Women’s Seaside Classic kicked off our week of golf with a highly successful 36 holes event with increased entries this year of 90 & 88 over the two days. Congratulations to Quedesha Golledge our 2024 Classic winner with a score of 168 after coming runner up for the last two years. Quedesha also shot a new course record of 81 on Sunday on the new reversed course of 74/74. The weather was not ideal on Monday, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of our players who had nothing but praise for the presentation of the course and organisation of the event. We thank our wonderful volunteers out on the course who provided their time to rake bunkers & spot for our women, the players are always so thankful for this courteous gesture. Congratulations to all our 40 winners. We had many Port women featured! Results are attached below.

Putting name on timesheet
If at any time you have any issues putting your name on the timesheet, please contact Sheena. It is usually quite simple to sort out the problem.
Pennants report
Congratulations to Port Macquarie Sapphires for winning the Southern region and progressing through to the final against South West Rocks. The final saw great golf from both teams, with the result coming down to the final match on the 18th green, with SWR getting home 3 matches to 2. Congratulations to SWR and commiserations to our Port team. With 3 matches going to the 18th, it could have gone either way. Thank-you Naomi Hunter and HEM for the continued support of Women’s Pennants.
Singles Matchplay
I had the privilege to play with the two finalists Skye Lacey and Corrina Munro when they played their match. Skye played the better golf for the first half of the match. It looked like it would be a convincing win, but Corrina knuckled down and fought back solidly. However, Skye had too big a lead and was the eventual victor winning 3/2. Both women exhibited exceptional sportsmanship throughout the match. It was pleasing to see Saturday women playing in our new format. I believe the new format to be successful despite the weather difficulties.
Women’s Club Championships
CLUB CHAMPS are on soon! We have a new format this year to enable working women to play without the necessity to take leave from work. Round 1 can be played on Saturday OR Wednesday. If a person plays both days, the first round played will be the one that counts towards their Championship score. Similarly, Round 2 can be played either the following Saturday or Wednesday. Depending on a person’s commitments the first two rounds could be, for example, a Saturday score for Round 1 followed by a Wednesday score for Round 2.
Round 3 FOR ALL PLAYERS will be played on Sunday September 8 with the normal seeded groups for each grade leading off.
I hope that everyone gets behind this initiative and plays on the Sunday. A complimentary Drinks Voucher will be provided to all players and note that Bar Menu food will also be available for purchase.
PLEASE ENTER ON THE SUNDAY TIMESHEET WHEN IT OPENS THE PREVIOUS WEEK IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY. WE WILL MOVE PLAYERS IF THEY END UP IN THE SEEDED DRAW.
4BALL MATCHPLAY
The rescheduled 4Ball Knockout has its qualifying rounds immediately after our championship. The 2 qualifying rounds are Wednesday September 11 and Saturday September 14. The top 16 pairs from these two days will qualify with Rd 1 to be played on Sunday September 22. Rd 2 must be played by Sunday 29 September, Rd 3 must be played by Sunday 6 October, with the date of the Final TBD. To qualify from the Saturday round, one of the pair must be a Saturday Businesswoman.
The daily event on both qualifying days is a 4BBB Nett Stroke, sponsored by PM Physio and Pilates (Kathy Lawrence).
For those who like to play away the WGCNC 4BBB Stableford event is being held at Gloucester on Monday September 16. The entry form for this event is in the women’s locker room and entry $ need to be deposited into our women’s account. We do a bulk entry for all CNC events.
Drop out Stableford
(Information from our Conditions of Play is listed below).
To speed up play and improve moral in Stroke rounds we are recommending that players consider changing to Stableford if their score blows out! You should seriously consider this choice if your group is losing ground despite other options you have put in place to keep up! (eg – sending 2 to the tee and ready golf during the play of a hole).
We will create a Stableford competition after the event whenever someone moves to Stableford scoring.

GOOD GOLFING EVERYONE!
