Former junior members shine at Victorian Amateur Golf Championships
Two former Port Macquarie junior members have been successful at the Victorian
Amateur Golf Championships at the Commonwealth and Victoria Golf Courses.
Ella Scaysbrook won the medal stroke trophy for the qualifying rounds but unfortunately was beaten in the first round of the match play section. This followed her recent win at Bathurst and she will represent New South Wales at Southport at the interstate contest starting shortly.
Blake Phillips, one of the sixteen qualifiers through to the match play finals took out the reigning South Australian Amateur Champion in the final match by birdieing the 18th hole to win the championship after two days of elimination matches . Our local member Terry Jones was runner-up in this Championship in 1984.
Blake has had a stellar start to the year winning the Next gen amateur tournament at Camden Lakeside with a nine under par final round of 63. Runner –up in the South Australian amateur Championship losing in a sudden death play off at the 4th hole. Playing for Concord at Riverside Oaks In the final of the Sydney Major Pennants against Avondale with the deciding match and game all tied up Blake birdied the last hole to give Concord Club their first win in 73 years.
Ella and Blake both sit at number 2 position on their respective Australian Order of Merit.

How they grow , ex junior members Blake and Jack Phillips pictured with Cameron Davis in 2019 and again in January 2023. Members who played with Jack will remember the little skinny boy who has now grown up to tower just over Cam Davis .
Jack and Blake are Ian & Dawn Campbell’s grandsons.
